We named these fabulous necklaces Arua, a beautiful city in Northern Uganda where we have family and friends. This is a signature, statement necklace. Very different from our other necklaces.
These necklaces are made from paper beads that have been painted turquoise and with a few added splashes of gold! A really terrific look, a lot of bling and just beautiful. The largest, cylinder shaped beads at the bottom or front of the necklace is just over an inch.
This single strand necklace is all in one color combination where the beads are in turquoise with some splashes of gold beads - total glam!
The paperbeads for these necklaces are made from recycled magazines, no two are exactly alike. The paperbeads have been made from strips of paper, rolled tightly and then varnished 5 times for durability and painted before being strung into a necklace. This is a very time consuming process. But, it is like making something beautiful from nothing.
The seed beads around the neck are in gold with a few larger brown beads.
There is a gold-tone push through clasp.
The length of each necklace is just about 10-11 inches.
These are handmade by our team of women artisans in the slums of Kampala, Uganda. No two necklaces are exactly alike.
