We named these Kagwilawo because they are faster to make than most of our other necklaces. Kagwilawo means to get something done in a hurry or being fast. These are really unusual. Most of the necklace is made of jewel-toned or black seedbeads, but the main feauture of this necklace are the 25 cone shaped paper beads that make a "fan" at the center of the necklace.
These cone-shaped paper beads are made of tightly rolled magazine paper that have been varnished for durability. There are different lengths of these beads, featuring mostly black, red and white colors, and they have been placed to create this symmetrical fan shape in the front, just about 4 inches at its widest part.
There is a silver-tone clasp in the back.
The seed beads are black or jeweltoned.
The length of the necklace is just over 10 inches.
No two necklaces are exactly the same. These are handmade by our talented and hard-working women in the slums of Kampala, Uganda.
